Farhan A. Mehboob is the CEO at S. Mehboob & Company, Consulting Engineers (SMC). Pakistan’s premiere MEP Consulting firm, with more than 40 years standing, SMC has offices in Pakistan and the Middle East, with projects located all the way upto North Africa and Central Asia.
Farhan graduated in Mechanical Engineering from University College London (1990), followed by a Masters in Refrigeration and Air conditioning from Kings College London (1992), and has since, served the company for more than 30 years.
Farhan has to his credit successfully completed over 900 projects. His work includes High Rise Buildings (upto 65 floors), Airports, Campuses, Hotels, Hospitals, Industrial and Infrastructure Projects and internationally Certified GREEN Building Projects.
The firm has history of designing projects which are sustainable, energy and water efficient, and extremely innovative and is credited with a number of firsts in Pakistan. Thermal Storage, Air-to-Air Energy Recovery, Full Building Automated Energy and Asset Management Systems, District Cooling and the first building in the region to feature radiant cooling, as well as the first LEED Certified Office Building in Pakistan.
He has always been keenly involved with the HVACR Industry in Pakistan and Internationally. He served as the youngest Chapter Chairman of the Karachi Chapter of the Pakistan HVACR society and was also elected to the Executive Council. He has read numerous papers and was also the recipient of a best paper award for his Case Study on the Impact of Building Codes in a City District. Farhan is a founder member of the Ashrae Pakistan Chapter and served on every position before being elected
as Chapter President. His involvement with Ashrae has grown considerably over the past decade and he has served as Sub-Region C Chair in the Region at Large as well as the Regional Vice Chair for Chapter Technology Transfer. He serves on Technical Committee TC 9.11 on Clean Spaces and presented on their behalf at the conference in Chicago. He has also contributed to a Chapter of ASHRAE’s ‘Green Guide’. He is also a member of TC 9.8.
Farhan has been the recipient of ASHRAE’s Distinguished Service Award and also been the Society Chairperson for the ASHRAE Chapter Technology Transfer Committee. He continues to actively support, ASHRAE internationally and in Pakistan.
Farhan has also been a pivotal member in producing Pakistan’s Building Energy Code, and when it was launched in Islamabad, he was asked to present on behalf of the Government of Pakistan (GOP) and Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC).
Recently he has been appointed to ASHRAE’s International Standards Interaction Task Force, and to join ASHRAE’S Planning Committee.
